Know As You Go
Have you ever had a clear word from the Lord, but struggle to advance because you do not have enough information? Do you find yourself anxiously nudging the Lord for more clarity and he is just not cooperating? If that is you, you are not alone!
Abraham trusted God and when God told him to leave home and go far away to another land that he promised to give him, Abraham obeyed . He went, not even knowing where he was going.-Hebrews 11:8(TLB)
An authentic life of faith demands that we abandon our inherent human need for certainty. Our very entrance into the Kingdom of God required that we believe in a loving God that is invisible! We quickly discover that this entrance exam of sorts is not a one time experience. Apparently God likes this process of prompting us to go places and do things with no certainty of an outcome that will satisfy our senses!
His voice in our hearts, scribbled down dreams, or rhema words are seemingly all he allows for the basis of our first steps. As our soulish cries for clarity go unmet, the Father rejoices over our total dependence on him. His plan is to let us know as we go!
John Kavanaugh, the noted preacher and philosopher, tells the story of his journey to Calcutta in search of personal direction. On the first morning of his stay at Mother Teresa’s “House of the Dying”, she asked what he needed prayer for.
“Pray that I have clarity” he asked. When she refused to do so, he asked her why? Mother Teresa said, “Clarity is the last thing you are clinging to and must let go of.”
Kavanaugh responded that she always seemed to have the clarity he longed for. She laughed and said, “I have never had clarity; what I have always had is trust. So I will pray that you trust God.”
Make your life of faith an adventure! Clearly see Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith. Be like Abraham saddle up, and settle in for the ride. Your destination is glorious ! Trust him!
